SOMACC Celebrates the Week of the Young Child

April 17, 2020

The Week of the Young Child (WOYC) is an important annual event organized by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) to highlight the importance of early learning, young children, their teachers, families, and communities.

It encourages everyone in the early learning community to host events celebrating young children and their learning throughout the week. Each day has a specific theme: Music Monday, Tasty Tuesday, Work Together Wednesday, Artsy Thursday, Family Friday. These themes are meant both to engage children and showcase the various ways that teachers and families support the development and learning of young children since high quality early learning is a whole community effort.

Due to the pandemic, our SOMACC community was not able to celebrate together. However, that did not hinder our families in engaging in fun and creative activities and experiences at home and outdoors (while maintaining social distancing) during this special week.
